LA York Girl Home

Having been born and raised in LA I recently made the move out to NYC and it’s been an adventure. Here I will share my stories as I navigate my way though the city and try to make NYC a place called home.

Wrong Borough

I was going to an interview in the Wall Street area at 140 Broadway.  I mapped out my route on HopStop and took the directions with me.  I got on the train and I was passing all the stops I was supposed to but noticed that after a few stops I no longer saw my exit at Cortland.  I figured I would go one more stop and get off.  I should have gotten off because something felt very wrong when I was on the subway going over the water on a bridge.  My interview was in Manhattan and I at least knew enough about Manhattan that going over the water means going to a different borough.  Also the time between stops was also taking much longer than usual.

I asked someone on the train where we were and she said en route to Brooklyn.   I was on the express not the local train, news to me!  I was loving HopStop but at this moment I wasn't so happy with it.  However when I put the time in to leave for my interview I put in 2am not 2pm so that was my fault.  She told me to take the N train uptown, so go back the other way.  As soon as we made our first stop in Brooklyn I got off and tried to find the right train.  I thought I had to exit the station and cross the street but apparently it was in the station I was already in.  So I stood outside the station sweating and I quickly emailed the job and let them know I needed to push back the interview.  For some reason the email was sent 2 times.  Note ATT in NYC sucks!

I found the right train going back to Manhattan and wasn't sure which stop to get off at.  I figured I would just get off at the first stop back in Manhattan.  I asked 1 person on the train and next thing you know 5 people were all telling me how to get to my interview.  They were all very nice but there were too many people telling me where to go and I was even more confused.  I got off the train and luckily I was at Crate and Barrel, somewhere I was at least familiar with from multiple trips there from moving in.  I called my boyfriend, Sean, and he was then able to tell me where to go from there.

I made it to my interview and was just a few minutes later than the time I rescheduled it to.  I was quite warm though walking around NYC in 85 degree humidity.  I took a second to gather myself in the cool air conditioned lobby and went upstairs.  The interview went pretty well and keeping my fingers crossed.
