Being an LA girl who calls her car a portable home the subway seemed like a daunting experience. However several people told me about a subway application that even I can't screw up called
Hopstop.com. It gives you as many details as every stop you should pass on the subway to which exit to use. It literally takes the signs you see outside the subway so there is no confusion. I have to say I was skeptical but this natural born driver is learning to not mind the subway so much. The heat though is a whole other issue.
